As the 4G team decides on a leader from among themselves, they can have no better example than ESM Goh Chok Tong and his team. His were among the strongest Cabinets that Singapore has had. When I took over from him as PM, I inherited a strong and experienced team. I similarly aim to hand over a strong team to my successor.
The leadership transition, from ESM Goh’s team to mine, is one of many stories recounted in his latest book ‘Standing Tall’, about his 14 years as the country’s second PM.
He also wrote about the battle against SARS in 2003, particularly timely in the midst of COVID-19 now. I was delighted to launch the book this evening.
Chok Tong, it was always a “tall order” to keep Singapore “standing tall”. But you have succeeded, and now your successors must strive to do the same. Congrats again on the launch of the book!
